1. Azzam by Lürssen
Launched in 2013, this megayacht held the title of the world’s largest yacht at 180 metres long. Azzam can accommodate 36 guests and as many as 80 crew members, and sold for $650 million.
Azzam boasts a sophisticated interior with luxurious décor conceived by French designer Christophe Leoni, inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century.
The behemoth was reportedly built for Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, former president of the United Arab Emirates, and with an innovative design and unusually shallow draft of 4.3 metres, she is able to travel at high speed in warm shallow waters, reportedly making for good use as a dayboat and to reach his favourite diving grounds.
Azzam can typically be found docked at her home port in Khalifa, Abu Dhabi.
2. Eclipse by Blohm & Voss
One of the most iconic luxury superyachts in the world, it is rumoured the Eclipse yacht cost an exorbitant $1.5 billion; however, the original contract price was only $700 million. This extravagant vessel was built by Blohm & Voss and the interior was designed by Terence Disdale.
Measuring 162 metres long, Eclipse was the largest superyacht in the world at the time of her launch. Onboard are 2 helipads, a swimming pool, cinema, missile detection system and even a mini submarine. With annual running costs of an estimated $60 million, she can accommodate 36 guests serviced by a crew of 70.
Eclipse is owned by Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, who is well-known for his ownership of Cheslea Football Club. Potentially speculation, a supposed additional feature of the vessel, is an “anti-paparazzi” system which identifies the electronic light sensors used in digital cameras and targets a bright light which overexposes the photo, rendering it useless.
3. Dilbar by Lürssen
At a huge 156 metres long, Dilbar is said to be one of the world’s largest boats – though shorter in length, the interior footprint of this multi-deck vessel is larger than Azzam.
Owned by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, the Dilbar has 84 crew members and can comfortably accommodate up to 36 guests.
Known for its opulent interiors, including a stunning 25-metre mosaic swimming pool and a helipad, the Dilbar sold for an immense $800 million, and it is estimated to cost approximately $60 million a year to run.
4. Al Said by Lürssen
This luxury yacht was built for the Sultan of Oman and was launched by Lürssen in 2007 under the code name Project Sunflower. She was later sold to the Royal Family of Qatar in 2022.
Designed by Norwegian yacht designer Espen Øino, Al Said has the authentic look of a classic cruise liner and boasts 155-metres of length; she is one of the world’s largest yachts in terms of volume.
Estimated at $600 million, and accommodating 70 guests and 174 crew members, Al Said is known for her entertaining spaces across six decks including a cinema, helipad, and a concert hall capable of hosting a 50-piece orchestra.
Al Said is docked at her home port of Sultan Qaboos Port, near Muscat, and is escorted by the Oman Navy when sailing.
5. Motor Yacht A by Blohm & Voss
Measuring 119-metres in length, this superyacht features a 2,500 square feet master bedroom, a swimming pool with a glass bottom and a disco hall. She can happily accommodate 14 guests and 42 crew members.
A is a superyacht designed by Phillippe Starck and built by Blohm and Voss. Although she has an arguably unimpressive name, she has a distinctive inverted bow making her instantly recognisable, which no doubt contributed to her cost of $440 Million.
Currently sailing under the Sierra Leone flag, A is owned by Russian entrepreneur and industrialist Andrey Melnichenko.
6. Dubai by Blohm & Voss and Platinum Yachts
Launched in 2006, Dubai is the world’s second-largest private yacht measuring 162-metres in length. Designed by Andrew Winch, she has an aluminium superstructure and steel hull. The interior design is made up of bold colours and intricately detailed mosaics and a spectacular colour-changing, glass staircase.
This vessel was built for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei more than 10 years before the yacht’s launch but after he retracted the purchase contract, she went to the current owner, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for $400 million.
The yacht has 8 decks providing space for 115 guests and 88 crew members. Onboard, she has a disco, cinema, waterbikes, a squash court, and a submarine. Dubai is kept in front of The Logo Islands which are two artificial islands and are the private island of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
7. A+ (Topaz) by Lürssen
The A+ Yacht, formerly named Topaz, is a floating fortress crafted by Lürssen and designed by Tim Heywood. With 8 decks and 26 staterooms, she can accommodate up to 52 guests and 79 crew members.
A+ features an opulent interior with a jacuzzi, helipads, swimming pools, a tender garage as well as a fitness hall, cinema and conference room. Yacht A+ is worth a staggering $450 million with annual running costs of around $45 million.
The yacht was gifted to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and is now owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi.
8. Pelorus by Lürssen
Pelorus is a superyacht with a length of 115m. As with Yacht A+, she was built by Lürssen but designed by both Tim Heywood and Terrence Disdale; she was sold to Roman Abramovich during her maiden voyage, who had it altered by Blohm & Voss, adding a second helicopter pad and other naval elements. As of November 2023, Pelorus was for sale at an asking price of $198 million.
This yacht accommodates 24 guests and 46 crew members and inside is an impressive panoramic sky lounge that features a dancefloor and sound system as well as other luxuries like a cinema, beauty salon, elevator, underwater lights, beach club and gym.
9. Lady Moura by Blohm & Voss
This vessel was built in 1990 for Saudi Arabian businessman, Nasser Al-Rashid; as of 2021 she has been owned by a Mexican Businessman, Ricardo Salinas Pliego. With her name carved from 24-carat gold lettering, Lady Moura is valued at $125 million with estimated annual running costs of $12 million.
Lady Moura has an impressive length of 105-metres and is capable of accommodating up to 27 guests and housing 71 crew members. Onboard this yacht is a pool, a 75-foot dining room table as well as a helipad, cinema, disco, gym, and medical suite. Her tenders include a 38-foot SanJuan and a 24′ Nautique GS series wake surfing vessel.
The most outstanding aspect of the Lady Moura though is its extendable beach: a sand-covered hydraulic platform that extends out from the side of the yacht to reveal a cabana, decorated with palm trees, beach chairs, and real sand.
10. Sailing Yacht A by Nobiskrug
This sail-assisted motor yacht was built by Nobiskrug in Germany for Russian billionaire, Andrey Melnichenko. Designed by Phillipe Starck, this 142-metre-long vessel consists of two propellers that are sail-assisted by 3 freestanding carbon fibre sailing masts.
The sophisticated, metallic, superyacht has near see-through windows giving it a futuristic naval aesthetic. With 8 floors, she can hold a crew of 54 members attending just 20 guests and features an underwater observation pod, a spa and gym.
