This International Women’s Day, we recognise the women who continue to shape the marine and sailing world. From offshore racing to cruising, from club committees to class associations and training centres, women play an increasingly visible and influential role across every part of the sector.
Sailing has historically been male dominated, yet figures such as Tracy Edwards, who skippered the first all female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, demonstrated decades ago that capability on the water is defined by competence and determination. Today, that same standard is reflected across grassroots sailing, professional racing and the wider marine industry.
At Soak Insure, we are proud to support a diverse community of boat owners, skippers and sailors. On this day, we would like to recognise our many female clients who trust us to arrange and advise on their marine insurance. Whether racing competitively, cruising with family, or managing complex sailing programmes, their professionalism, passion and commitment to the sport are clear in every conversation.
We are equally grateful for the women within the organisations and classes we work alongside. That includes Sarah at Hayling Island Sailing Club, Alison at Aldeburgh Yacht Club, Victoria from Cape 31 UK Class, Carol from XOD Class Association, and Kim from UKSA, along with many others past and present. Their work behind the scenes strengthens clubs, classes and training pathways that sustain the future of sailing.
International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to recognise the expertise within our own extended team. We would like to thank Chloe Howarth and Leah Palmer, part of the claims specialists supporting Soak Insure clients. When an incident occurs, they guide clients through the claims process, liaise with insurers and third parties, and work to progress matters efficiently and professionally. In a sector where time on the water is valuable, their role is fundamental to restoring confidence and momentum.
Today, we celebrate the women at the helm, on deck, in club offices, within class associations, in training organisations and within the specialist teams that support the marine community every day.
