At Soak Insure, we understand that, as well as having piece of mind from their insurance policy, boat owners want to feel confident in exploring the coastlines, mooring up overnight, and that their vessel is secure when they’re not on board. That’s why we’re proud to work alongside SeaSight, a UK-based marine security innovator whose products align with our commitment to safeguarding boat owners and their vessels.
SeaSight’s story
In July 2024, SeaSight founder Tony Cantrill returned home from a work trip to find his brand-new Ribeye A683 gone. It had been stolen from its swing mooring in St Mawes after just 23 days on the water. Despite coordinated efforts from local harbour authorities, marine police, and even Interpol, the boat was never recovered.
This experience revealed a glaring gap in marine security. Most systems on the market were adapted from automotive or fleet models, and not suited to the realities of tides, moorings and marinas. Drawing on decades of IT and systems engineering experience, Tony set out to create a better solution, and one that was built specifically for leisure vessels. Within a year, SeaSight was born.
Layered protection that’s purpose-built for boats
SeaSight’s launch range answers three critical needs of boat security: physical deterrence, real-time tracking, and covert fallback protection.
- Secure – A robust padlock and marine-grade cable (developed with ABUS) to physically secure boats to docks or anchor points. No connectivity required; a visible deterrent that adds an extra layer of protection. In the event of an emergency, such as needing to move your vessel without your key, authorised harbourmasters and boatyards will hold a master key compatible with all SeaSight Secure products. All participating locations in the SeaSight network use the same master key system, ensuring smooth and consistent access as you travel between destinations.
- Shield – A connected onboard tracking and alarm unit. Shield detects unauthorised movement and alerts the owner via a mobile app. Owners can activate alarms, flashing lights or even immobilise their boat remotely. A proprietary mooring sensor distinguishes between normal tidal movement and real tampering. This setup is actively monitored 24/7 through the SeaSight app, available on iOS, Android, or as a web app, giving you complete control whether you’re on your phone or laptop.
- Stealth – A concealed, battery-powered tracking unit operating independently of the boat’s power. Installed discreetly, it transmits secure location data every 24 hours, even during tampering or power loss, providing persistent tracking when it matters most. This setup in also monitored through the SeaSight app.
Each product can be used independently or together as a complete package. All are designed for self-installation and built specifically for the marine environment.
Why this solution matters
We’ve seen first-hand how devastating boat theft can be. Insurance can help you recover financially, but prevention is always the best defence. SeaSight’s solutions help reduce the likelihood of theft and improve the chances of recovery should it occur.
